First up is the trailer for 21 Jump Street which I’m sure will be just as disappointing as its spiritual brother 30 Minutes or Less. That said, I reckon this trailer is pretty funny (I particularly like the ‘attorney’ gag) and the premise could just about be carried by Jonah Hill’s comedic charisma. I’m not writing this one off just yet…
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World appears to be a painfully indie comedy version of Melancholia. That said, Steve Carrell is in a rich vein of form and I’m a big fan of his style in general. Matching him up with Keira Knightley looks like a massive non sequiter but who knows? Maybe it will be an unexpectedly delightful, airy fairy, namby pamby vision of the apocalypse.
I’m going to call ‘utter shite’ on Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter before it’s too late, especially as this trailer is deceptively badass.
Christ almighty. I’ve heard good things about Bobcat Goldthwait’s God Bless America but only just got round to actually watching the trailer and, fuck me, is it dark. I understand that this is risk taking social commentary but I’m not sure for how long I’ll be able to stomach watching a grown man and a 16 year old girl shooting people in the face for littering.
Finally, here’s the trailer for The Hunger Games which has been around for quite a while. I just supposed that a lot of people who bother to read film blogs would not bother with a film that has been feted as the ‘new Twilight’. I really like the steampunk dystopia vibe they’re rocking and reckon that this is going to be pretty good. Lest we not forget that Jennifer Lawrence is a really, really good (Academy Award nominated) actress. I have no idea where the story goes from its basic premise but I’m expecting lots of dead people.
